A stick of butter rice

Given the recipe’s name, you probably already knew that making this rice would require a stick of butter. Yes! This is a simple side dish you can make with three additional ingredients and bake in the oven while making the main course. Its flavor is comparable to that of Rice-a-Roni.

Ingredients for a Stick of Butter Rice

Rice: This dish uses long-grained white rice, such as basmati or jasmine. Unlike medium or short-grained rice, which readily clumps together, long-grained white rice separates more readily.

Use a can of condensed French onion soup.

Condensed Beef Consommé Compared to beef broth, beef consommé has a richer flavor and is more concentrated. You may use beef stock or beef broth in a pinch. Look for it in the same section of the grocery store as other condensed soup cans.

Butter: You are making nine pats out of a single stick of butter. “Why not just cut it into eight tablespoons?” is probably what you’re thinking. The rationale for using nine pats is that you want the butter pats evenly spaced in a 3×3 grid on top of the rice.

How to Prepare Butter Rice Sticks

This side dish is simple to prepare and only takes an hour or so. Combine the beef consommé, condensed French onion soup, and uncooked rice in a 9 x 9-inch baking dish to create the tasty dish. Mix to blend. Place the nine pats of butter in a 3×3 pattern on top of the mixture.

Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake for half an hour. After 30 minutes, remove the foil and bake for another 30 minutes, or until the rice is soft and cooked through. After fluffing it up, serve the rice with beef, pork, or chicken.
